Yes, it was a shame that Bardem wasn't nominated for The Sea Inside. And, yes, he should have won. But the Academy had to nominate the bland performance of Johnny Depp in Finding Neverland.

I don't know what is going on with SPC and Biutiful. But I do think that Biutiful will get a US distributor (it has sold well in the rest of the world). Biutiful is bigger than most of the foreign films that are released here. I think that due the economic climate and the sad state of the foreign film releases here the distributors are trying to buy Biutiful for the lowest possible price. I hope that we hear something positive soon.

Edit: I just read a piece by the owner of the Quad theater in NYC. He said that foreign films are really having problems here (we already know that). He also said that Sony Classics product used to consist of two thirds foreign films. Now they are down to one half to one third. It is still better than most distributors but that news is disturbing. And The Weinstein Company barely touches foreign films. Well, maybe someone with money and love of these films will come along and form a new distributor that will pick up where the others have left off.

It looks like we can take Johnny Depp's name off the list

It's dissapointing news if true, but it's not a suprise.

OOPS, MY BAD......I could have sworn Bardem was nominated for The Sea Inside. Great performance. Heartbreaking. Should have been nominated instead of almost everyone on that list except Jamie Foxx. Weird. I still maintain that he has big champions this year and Sean Penn is one huge one.

Depp may or may not win. Do you think he really cares that much?

Well, didn't he stomp out of the Golden Globes ceremony when he lost Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy to Bill Murray?

If I remember correctly I think we was not even present at the ceremony. It was Bill Murray though who was looking like he would leave after he lost the oscar to Sean Penn. I think he didn't either but Eddie Murphy did. that biatch.

No, like someone else said, I don't think Johnny Depp even showed up. It was Bill Murray though who was a sore loser when Sean Penn won the Oscar. Murray didn't stand up and applaud during Penn's standing ovation and afteward even Crystal pointed out his disappointment.

It was Eddie Murphy though that left the room after he had lost to Alan Arkin. I'm not sure whether he returned or not, but there was some speculation that he too was being a sore loser.

I'm really not buying the chances for the Firth vehicle. Sometimes a flick is just so baity that it fails to deliver, and with no real pedigree behind the camera that's what I think will happen with this one.
